Welcome to The Oven Diaries, where we're elevating everyday vegetables into extraordinary side dishes! Today, we're transforming fresh asparagus into a restaurant-quality treat with our Air-Fried Asparagus recipe. Using your Plum Chef Air Fryer Oven, you can achieve that perfect "crisp-tender" texture that makes asparagus so delightful, all while infusing it with a delicious balance of savory garlic, sweet honey, and a hint of spicy heat.

The genius of this recipe lies in its simple yet sophisticated flavor profile and the efficiency of air frying. The AIR FRY function at 400°F quickly roasts the asparagus, caramelizing the natural sugars while maintaining a beautiful bright green color and satisfying crunch. The olive oil helps create a slight crispness on the exterior, while the honey adds a subtle glaze that complements the asparagus's natural earthiness. The garlic and hot sauce provide just enough kick to keep your taste buds interested.

Whether you're preparing a quick weeknight dinner or entertaining guests, this asparagus recipe is sure to impress with its vibrant appearance and complex flavors. Let's create a vegetable side dish that might just steal the show!

Air-Fried Asparagus with Garlic and Honey Glaze

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 6-8 minutes
Temperature: 200°C/400°F
Serves: 2-3

INGREDIENTS:

  • 12 ounces fresh asparagus, ends trimmed

  • 2 garlic cloves, finely minced

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 2 teaspoons honey

  • Hot sauce to taste (start with ½ teaspoon)

  • Kosher salt and fresh pepper to taste

  • Optional garnish: lemon zest, Parmesan cheese, or toasted almonds

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Prepare Asparagus: Trim the tough ends from the asparagus spears. If desired, peel the lower third of thicker spears for more even cooking.

  2. Season: Place the asparagus, minced garlic, olive oil, honey, hot sauce, salt, and pepper into a plastic zip-top bag. Seal the bag and shake gently but thoroughly to coat all spears evenly.

  3. Arrange for Cooking: Place the Air Fryer Basket on the Baking/Drip Pan. Transfer the seasoned asparagus to the basket, arranging them in a single layer.

  4. Position in Oven: Place the basket in the oven in the bottom rack position.

  5. Set Cooking Function: Set the Timer Knob to 6-8 minutes, Temperature Knob to 400°F, and Function Knob to Air Fry.

  6. Cook: Air-fry for 3-4 minutes, then use tongs to turn the asparagus over. Continue air-frying for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the asparagus is crisp-tender and lightly browned in spots.

  7. Serve: Transfer to a serving platter, garnish as desired, and serve immediately.

Chef's Tip: Cooking time will vary based on the thickness of your asparagus. Thin spears may be done in 6 minutes, while thicker ones may need the full 8 minutes. For extra flavor, squeeze fresh lemon juice over the asparagus after cooking. If you prefer milder heat, reduce or omit the hot sauce. The honey helps create a beautiful glaze while balancing the spicy and savory elements.
